Delete your AskedOut account
You can delete your AskedOut account, and everything that goes with it, at any time. You do not need to contact anyone or give a reason.
Want a break instead?
If what you need is a pause rather than an exit, you do not have to delete anything. In the app, switch on Pause my account (in Settings). While paused, your profile is hidden from everyone’s discovery feed, so nobody new can find you, and your existing matches and conversations stay exactly as they are. Switch it off whenever you are ready to come back. Deletion is always available if a pause is not enough.
The fastest way: in the app
- Open AskedOut and go to Profile → Settings → Privacy & Data.
- Tap Delete my account and confirm.
That’s it. Your profile is removed from discovery immediately: nobody can see you, like you or message you from that moment.
No longer have the app installed?
You don’t need to reinstall it. Email us at contact@askedout.com from the email address linked to your account with the subject “Delete my account”. We will verify the request (to make sure nobody else can delete your account) and process it on the same schedule as an in-app deletion. We answer within one month at the latest (article 12(3) GDPR), and in practice much sooner.
What happens after you ask for deletion
- Immediately: your profile disappears from discovery and from your matches’ apps.
- For 30 days (grace period): your account is scheduled for permanent deletion but can still be recovered. If you change your mind, sign back in and choose Cancel deletion on the Privacy & Data page. This grace period exists to protect you against accidental or coerced deletions.
- After 30 days: your account and personal data are permanently deleted or irreversibly anonymized: profile, photos, matches, likes, messages you sent (your matches’ devices may retain their own end-to-end-encrypted copies of past conversations, which we never held in readable form in the first place), preferences and consents. A small set of records we are legally required to keep is retained for the statutory period only (for example, purchase records for tax law, and moderation/safety records where French or EU law requires them). What deletion does NOT do
- It does not cancel an active AskedOut+ subscription, because subscriptions are billed by Apple rather than by us. Cancel in your device’s Settings → [your name] → Subscriptions, or Apple will keep charging you even though the account is gone.
- It does not delete data you asked us to export before deleting. Any export file you downloaded is on your device, under your control.
